1What is Profractional Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Profractional Skin Resurfacing is a laser treatment (erbium/yag) that creates thousands of microscopic wounds in your skin. It is called "fractional" because it only treats a fraction of your skin at a time, reducing downtime.
2How Does the Profractional Laser Work?
Thousands of microscopic wounds made in the skin by the laser starts the body's natural healing process. This healing stimulates the production of new collagen fibres which smooths out lines and wrinkles, plumps up the skin and improves scars.
3Who Are Good Candidates for Skin Resurfacing?
Men and women who are looking to achieve younger looking skin, improve scars and wrinkles. The face, hands, neck and upper chest can be treated.
4How Long Does A Treatment Take?
Laser resurfacing of a full face takes almost an hour to complete. A numbing cream, applied to the skin one hour before the procedure, makes the total timeA of the procedure approximately two hours. Depending on the condition of your skin, 3-5 treatments are recommended. Each treatment treats approximately 20% of the skin's surface.
5Does It Hurt?
A numbing cream is used which decreases the discomfort of the procedure. A mild prickling sensation is described as well as a feeling of warmth. Following the treatment, the skin will feel warm with a "sunburn" sensation.
6Side Effects/Precautions?
Immediately following the treatment, the skin will appear red and feel warm. You may experience some swelling. Downtime for this procedure is approximately 3-5 days depending on how aggressive a treatment you decide on. Make-up can be applied the next day. As always, good sun protection is important after this procedure.
